Timothy Daskivich (UCLA CSP VA 12-14) was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the ACGME. He will also serve as Chair of the Council of Review Committee Residents. He will succeed Charles Scales, Jr. (UCLA CSP VA 11-13).


Elizabeth Barnert (UCLA CSP 12-14) has been awarded $10,000 by the APA Young Investigator Award (YIA) Program. Her proposal, “Understanding Protective Factors against Involvement in the Criminal Justice System” was one of four projects selected for funding.


Efrain Talamantes (UCLA CSP VA 12-14) founded Alliance in Mentorship, a non-profit organization aimed at creating innovative mentorship opportunities for pre-health students throughout the country using social media and other mobile technologies.


Efrain Talamantes (UCLA CSP VA 12-14) was recipient of the 2012-2013 Latino Medical Student Association Advisor of the Year Award.


Hemal Kanzaria (UCLA CSP 12-14) founded Remedy at UCSF – a student-run service-learning organization focused on responsible redistribution of unused medical supplies for global aid and waste reduction – in 2004 as a medical student. The organization was recently chosen as the Alumni Weekend Service Activity on April 25-27, 2013 and publicized to over 45,000 alumni. The organization also received the 2013 UCSF Sustainability Award in recognition of their contributions to and impact on environmental sustainability at UCSF.


Hemal Kanzaria (UCLA CSP 12-14) was an invited faculty discussant in the Clinical Pathologic Case Presentation at the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Western Regional Meeting in Long Beach, CA on March 22, 2013.
